Ooredoo Kuwait has unveiled a new offer for its pre-paid customers that gives zero-rated data usage for apps like WhatsApp, Skype Viber and Tango to win back its market share, reported Reuters. The move is seemingly aimed to counter its rival Viva's aggressive pricing that has been attracting customers in the country.
According to Ooredoo, every time a customer recharges his/her prepaid plan, Xpress line, the person will be granted unlimited access to these apps. The network will recognize that the customer is using these apps, and will not be charging the customer.
Hani El-Kukhun, COO of Ooredoo Kuwait said that, “In Kuwait, market penetration is at an all-time high so the key is here how you get your customers to spend more on data.” He added that, "You either join the OTTs or you fight them, so we embraced them fully."
In addition, Ooredoo Kuwait last weekend announced special offers to go with the new iPhones - iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus - which include unlimited talk-time, unlimited messages and unlimited access to these messaging applications from KWD35 per month.
