Telstra joins leading mobile operators worldwide to roll out the voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) service for its postpaid customers on its 4G network. Customers with compatible handsets such as Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, and the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be able to enjoy the service, followed by users of the new Sony Xperia. The largest mobile operator in Australia will also be turning on the service for its business customers, followed by its prepaid consumers.

The technology which brings high-definition voice and video calling service also enables faster call set-up times and fewer dropped calls. Mike Wright, Group Managing Director of Telstra Network wrote in Telstra exchange, "We can now link the future for voice to the world of multi-media which will enable new and interesting applications and call flexibility, including a path to native voice calling over WiFi (VoWiFi), allowing a seamless handset experience, video-calling-over-LTE (ViLTE) and even higher definition audio."
In April, the Operator said that it has activated the Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology on its 4G network and has embarked on internal testing with end-user devices for the next phase of fine-tuning and optimization.
