The stiff competition among Mobile Operators in India and the rapid growth of mobile data traffic in the country sees more efforts by incumbents to beef up their network capacity and expand their services further. Bharti Airtel just announced the launch of its pan-India 4G services, ahead of Reliance-Jio debut of its service which is expected to take place in 2 months, while Vodafone India this week announced the availability of its new WiFi offload application.
The WiFi offload application - Vodafone WiFi Connect - will help Vodafone to better manage its network capacity by offloading mobile data traffic to the WiFi network, thus improving network congestion and enhancing subscriber experience.
To connect to the service, all Vodafone customers need to do is download the WiFi Connect client which is available on both Android and iOS app stores and sign-in once before they can seamlessly switch their mobile data connection to Vodafone WiFi hotspots. Vodafone India has todate deployed around 100 WiFi zones in Delhi and Mumbai.
Last month, the Operator announced the commencement of its 4G LTE trials in selected areas, also as part of its plan to cater for the growing data needs.
