Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is launched across all states in India yesterday with all leading Operators, including Airtel, Vodafone, RCom, Idea Cellular, and Uninor as well as state-run MTNL and BSNL stating their readiness to support the service. The service will allow mobile subscribers to keep their existing mobile phone numbers even when they move from one service area or circle to another and also when they switch over to another Operator.
Stating its readiness, the largest Operator, Bharti Airtel said that the company is also introducing other facilitation including faster processing of porting requests, free incoming on roaming, balance transfers and carry forward options. Any porting request, said Bharti Airtel, will be processed within 24 hours and it will be providing free incoming on roaming for customers who request the switchover from their Operators. Airtel customers can also avail the option of transferring their balance in prepaid or carrying forward their unbilled/billed amount in the case of postpaid while porting their number to their new destination.
