Reliance Jio Expected to Launch 4G in Five Major Cities in June

According to a statement from Reliance Jio Infocomm, the company will be rolling out its much awaited 4G LTE services via an integrated system that combines the use of LTE in spectrum bands of 800 MHz, 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz. Reliance Jio is expected to launch 4G mobile services via a phased approach with the initial service rollout scheduled in June covering five cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Nagpur.

In the run-up to the launch of its new service, the operator, last week unveiled its free over-the-top (OTT) voice and messaging application Jio Chat that allows video calling, audio conferencing and groups chats, and rich text features like stickers, emoticons, doodles, media share, location share and more.

Reliance Jio holds a pan-India 2300 MHz spectrum, and has acquired spectrums in 800 MHz and/or 1800 MHz in 20 regions out of the total 22 circles. Last year, the company bagged spectrums in 14 regions across the country in the band of 1800 MHz. In the spectrum auction conducted in March this year, Reliance Jio was able to gain the right to use spectrum in the bands of 800MHz and 1800 MHz in 13 important areas across the country. Reliance Jio said in a statement that its total equivalent spectrum footprint has now increased to 751.1MHz, including both uplink and downlink.

With the large pool of integrated spectrum over most circles in India, the operator aims to offer high speed 4G service that will provide efficient communication and digital services to the Indian market, tergeting sectors like education, finance, healthcare, entertainment and government-citizen interfaces.
