The largest mobile operator in the U.S., Verizon has started rolling out the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for its Samsung Galaxy Note 4 customers via over the air updates to their devices. The upgrade, among others, introduces the Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) functionality, allowing users of the device to access Verizon's high definition(HD) voice service which runs on the 4G LTE data network. The enhanced version of the Android 5.0 upgrade, according to Verizon, is also accessible on other devices such as connected TVs, cars and wearablse, with users of these gadgets being able to access Android apps and services via their screens.  

August last year, Verizon launched its VoLTE service, rolling out HD voice and video calling for its subscribers. The service - Advanced Calling 1.0 - enables subscribers to make calls using their phone's native dial pad without the need to install any extra application, using Verizon's 4G LTE data connection. 

According to a statement by Verizon, the Android 5.0 update will also introduce improvements such as new runtime (ART), 64-bit support, Android Auto and comes with a fresh new design. The new Lollipop mobile operating system also boasts enhanced features for navigation, including lock screen notifications - Smart Lock; a new multitasking view; Do Not Disturb mode; and Slow Motion and Fast Motion camera modes. It also features 'floating action button' that brings out visual improvements to apps such as Messages, Contacts, Phone, S Health, and Gallery.
