French operator, Iliad last week has unveiled the Freebox mini 4k Android set-top box, an enhanced version of its Freebox. The solution which is bundled with high speed broadband and telephony, brings the 4K ultra HD TV service and comes with an intelligent remote control and voice search capabilities which allow users to look up their favourite movies via voice commands.

The video box, said Illiad, features a 1.5 GHz Broadcom BCM7252 ARM Cortex-A15 dual-core processor and supports a number of potential sources of 4K and Full HD content including streaming, terrestrial, on-demand and recorded video content. With its 4K compatible HDMI-out port, the Freebox mini offers more than 200 TV channels, 49 of which are in HD. It is also bundled with Freebox TV apps to extend the service across mobile devices, featuring the Freebox TV, Freebox Replay, Video Club, Canal+, Canalsat, and more. With access to Android TV, users can access the Google Play store, Google Play movies, Google Play Games, Google Music, and YouTube, and make use of the 'Android TV Remote Control" apps with which users can control the box on their smartphones.

The Freebox mini service, which is also priced at 29.99 euros per month, is supported by Free’s internet service delivered on ADSL2, VDSL2 and fiber optic connectivity. Free's service modem comes with its own advanced features, including support for 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 802.11n WiFi, Esata port, 2 USB 2.0 ports and an integrated Femtocell, that helps to boost mobile signal. Iliad claims that the box brings the world's first 4K Android TV service that is capable of delivering video four times sharper than Full HD.
