Microsoft and Dish Network on Tuesday released the Sling TV app for Xbox One, making Microsoft's console the first gaming console to support an over-the-top (OTT) TV service. Xbox One joins a constellation of other devices that support Sling TV, including Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick; current-generation Roku players and Roku TV models; Android and iOS devices; and Macs and PCs.

Sling TV customers can add the app to their Xbox One consoles by downloading Sling TV from the Xbox One Apps Store and start streaming from Sling's “Best of Live TV” core package with live sports, lifestyle, family and news channels that include ESPN, CNN, AMC and Disney Channel, at a subscription rate of US$20 per month. Additionally, customers can choose to tailor their entertainment experience with optional “Sports Extra,” “Hollywood Extra,” “Kids Extra,” “Lifestyle Extra” and “World News Extra” add-on packs, each priced at $5 per month. In addition to live channels and VOD entertainment, Sling TV customers will also have access to content from Maker Studios. For new Xbox owners, they are eligible for three months of free Sling TV upon the purchase of a new Xbox One console.

Roger Lynch, CEO, Sling TV
Sling TV and Xbox are a natural pairing; two out of three millennials think of themselves as gamers, while nearly nine out of 10 watch live sports on TV. Today’s Xbox One customers have been some of the most passionate about Sling TV since the beginning, and now we’re pleased to bring them live TV on their favorite gaming console.

Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President, Marketing, Xbox
Our partnership with Sling TV marks an important milestone in our commitment to bringing our community the best experiences on Xbox One. As the first gaming console where the service is available, Xbox One users will have more of their favorite entertainment and new, cutting edge options for watching TV at their fingertips starting today.
