AT&T's Global Drive Platform now boasts the ability to connect drivers to their home security and automation service, which they can access via the digital screens on their Connected Car's dashboards. The second largest operator in the US said in an announcement at the MWC2015 earlier this month that its AT&T Digital Life Platform is the first and only home management system that is currently integrated to a Connected Car platform.

What this enables AT&T Connected Car drivers to do is manage various connected devices, equipments and functionalities at home while they are driving by simply using the Digital Life app that integrates the control of these various connected 'machines' onto a single app. Drivers can control these applications via the dashboard control panel in their cars as well as via voice recognition, allowing them to turn on and off their home appliances, adjust their settings and activate certain features, all while they are driving.

According to AT&T, its Connected Car platform, the AT&T Drive, boasts a modular, global solution that enables auto-makers to customize the features and services to the needs of their auto brands. The platform, which comes with integration to billing and data analytics hosts a wide range of content including operator Apps such as the Digital Life app as well as third party apps and content, allowing auto-makers to pick and choose in-vehicle infortainment content and services that differentiates their Connected Car offering from other auto-brands, added AT&T.

Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Internet of Things, AT&T Mobility
The integration of Digital Life into the Drive platform shows how by combining the car and home, we’re forward-thinking about the kinds of features consumers will come to expect from their cars. We’re offering the best solutions by further mobilizing people’s lives.

Kevin Petersen, president, AT&T Digital Life
Being able to access and manage your home from the car is an example of how we’re continuing to innovate and offer our customers unique and convenient ways to monitor their homes, protect their families and simplify their lives. Through this integration, we are also able to exemplify the value and opportunities this brings to industry leading companies we are collaborating with. By inviting third parties to be a part of the Digital Life ecosystem we are able to create a more flexible and enjoyable customer experience.
