SIM only plans have lately been competing with plans that bundle devices, especially plans that allow subscribers to purchase the latest smartphones via monthly installments. Some bundles offer exclusive models via tie-up with handset vendors while others offer a discounted rate of most popular models in the market.

Last week, SIM only plans took a little limelight after EE, a leading digital communications company and provider of mobile services in UK announced the launch of refreshed range of 4G SIM only plans. According to EE, these plans come in 12 month and 30 Day plans offering data and UK voice and text minutes for as low as  £9.99 per month.  For customers who take out an EE Extra plan from £15.99, they will receive unlimited UK calls and texts, double speed 4G and free calls to 080 numbers, said EE.

Subscribers who take up these plans from now until 31st of January 2015 will receive quotas of 250MB, 500MB, 2GB, 5GB and 10GB at prices ranging from £9.99 to £30.99, after which the 2GB, 5GB and 10GB buckets will become 1GB, 3GB and 5GB respectively. At present, EE's 4G coverage covers 75% of the population, 263 major towns and cities and over 2,500 villages and small towns.
