BBIX (BBIX), a subsidiary of SoftBank that conducts an Internet Exchange (IX) business, last week announced the launch of a 'Remote Peering' service that enables peering via overseas IX operators, an optional service exclusive to customers using 'Smart IX'.
'Smart IX' is an exchange service that enables international connections of IX services provided in Asia, the United States, and Europe.
The new optional 'Remote Peering' service will enable customers to perform direct peering with Internet operators using the IX services of overseas IX operators by utilizing the high-quality backbone network of the 'Smart IX' service. In addition, this new optional service will reduce the cost of international leased lines and IP transit fees for connecting to overseas Internet operators. BBIX will initially start by partnering with 'AMS-IX' provided by Amsterdam Internet Exchange B.V. and provide peering at BBIX European connection points. In the future, BBIX plans to expand its footprint by partnering with a number of affiliated IX operators worldwide.
BBIX will continue to provide solutions that contribute to the development of the Internet and strive to enhance services for our customers.

We believe that this option will enable “one-stop” connection to overseas IX operators, and realize efficient peering and improve overall network quality.

We are very pleased to be able to provide customers with opportunities to improve network efficiency and quality through peering by providing peering connections to overseas IX operators on BBIX’s Smart IX platform.
