Fortumo this week announced the launch of the mobile operator 3Denmark on its direct carrier billing platform.

Fortumo’s merchants can now collect payments for games and digital content from more than 1 million subscribers of the telco by charging purchases to their postpaid phone bill.

Collecting carrier billing payments from 3Denmark subscribers is available to digital content merchants through Fortumo’s Hosted DCB product. This approach makes it easy for merchants to launch carrier billing in a scalable manner: one integration to Fortumo enables payments with 3Denmark and hundreds of other mobile operators across the world.

In Denmark, 45% of people have a credit card while smartphone ownership is above 85%. The improved reach of carrier billing and the simpler checkout experience compared to credit card payments has resulted in carrier billing seeing widespread adoption for digital content payments. According to SuperData Research, 19% of all transactions for digital gaming content in Denmark are done using carrier billing.

Jesper Larsen Wagner, VP Business Development & Operation at 3Denmark
We look forward to offering our customers this opportunity to gather more online purchases in one place and get a good overview of it on their phone bill. Furthermore, carrier billing simplifies the checkout process, so all in all it matches our ambition to always offer transparency and user-friendly solutions to our customers.

Taavi Krusell, VP of Telco Partnerships at Fortumo
Digital content consumption is increasingly taking place on mobile devices and carrier billing provides the best payment experience to consumers in this environment.
