Did You Close the Garage? C Spire SmartHome IoT Service Does It For You from A 100 Miles Away

C Spire Home suite of services is another latest offering in the market for Internet of Things (IoT). The suite of services brought by C Spire, a provider of a wide range of wireless communications and high speed Internet access in the United States, will offer customers services that enable them to control various appliances in their homes remotely via the broadband network.

The service includes the ultra-fast 1 Gbps Internet access, digital HD television, nationwide phone and home automation services and is all-digital, IP-based. The roll-out is planned by the end of the year and Mississippi will be the first state to have access to this service. According to C Spire, the service will enable customers to perform a host of simple tasks such as adjusting the thermostat, turning off lights, closing the garage or locking the front door, from hundreds of miles away as long as they are connected to the network on a web-enabled device with Android or Apple iOS operating systems. In their statement, C Spire listed the following wireless devices which will be 'connected', controlled by consumers via the Honeywell's touchscreen color control panel:

  1. Cameras
  2. Windows and door sensors
  3. Smoke, carbon monoxide, motion and broken glass sensors
  4. Door locks
  5. Thermostats
  6. Appliance and lighting controls

C Spire cited industry reports that expect the home security, monitoring and automation services to grow significantly over the next several years, with more than 1.9 billion devices connecting to homes today and growing rapidly to an expected figure of 9 billion by 2018.

C Spire Home is a next-generation suite of Internet, digital television, phone, security, monitoring and automation services that helps move us one step closer to making our homes a hub for smarter living. With its unique integration and an intuitive app to easily control and manage every feature, this platform gives consumers what they want and need – meaningful applications coupled with simple, easy interfaces.”

Suzy Hays, Senior Vice President of Consumer Markets, C Spire

The future of in-home communications and our progress in encouraging widespread adoption of the ‘connected’ smart home is being driven by consumers’ desire to harness the power and potential of technology to improve the quality of their lives in the place that matters most to them – their home. Who doesn’t want to save energy, keep an eye on what is going on in their home even when they are away and guard against costly accidents in the home?”
