Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecom operator said that it expects its number of 5G subscribers to reach 1 million within a year of its launch, a local news portal reported.

The Operator is expected to launch its 5G service in the third quarter of 2020 and it predicts that the 5G update will be similar to its 4G uptake. Chunghwa Telecom was the first to receive licence for 5G services and has secured 90 megahertz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band and 600 megahertz in the 28 GHz band from the National Communications Commission (NCC).

In April, Chunghwa Telecom announced that it has selected Ericsson for deployment of a non-standalone (NSA) 5G New Radio (NR) on mid and high-frequency bands. The Operator will use Ericsson Radio System base stations and Ericsson’s 5G Core, including 5G Evolved Packet Core.
