Telekom Slovenije on Wednesday announced that it has upgraded its existing telemedicine solution to help healthcare professionals remotely monitor COVID-19 patients continuously and round the clock.
The solution is already being used in the recently established Telemedicine centre of UKC Ljubljana to monitor patients in isolation at home. The solution helps healthcare professionals to manage COVID-19 patients without being in direct contact with them.
Patients at home are provided with wireless meters to measure certain vital functions (e.g. blood oxygen, pulse, pressure, EKG, body temperature). The meters are connected to the patient's tablet or smartphone via the E-health application. The measured parameters are carried out automatically and in a safe manner using the telemedicine platform. The platform then sends all the information to a health portal, which automatically detects any critical deviation of vital functions from their normal values. Based on the information received, an alarm for medical personnel will be triggered, if necessary, to alert them to check the condition of the patient and respond appropriately.
The telemedicine platform is associated with national E-health systems at the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). Using the solution, doctors and nurses can continuously monitor patients without being exposed to the risks of infection. Patients are also able to communicate with a remote healthcare professional through the messaging app or video calls.
