HKT last Thursday officially announced the introduction of true 5G services in Hong Kong on April 1. HKT targets to be the first mobile operator in Hong Kong to introduce true 5G.

In the initial phase of the launch, HKT’s 5G network will provide seamless continuous coverage in the major golden districts, key infrastructure such as Hong Kong International Airport and major shopping malls. Following the initial launch, HKT plans to extend its network coverage to all districts in Hong Kong and the major MTR lines.

Starting from March 20, HKT will offer customers various local mobile data and 5G handset bundles in its 5G service plans, with monthly fees from HK$198/8GB. 

HKT also unveils a series of exciting 5G audio-visual entertainment services, including:

1. Now E Premier League and LaLiga 2020/21 Event Pass ─ football fans may watch exclusive live coverage of Premier League and LaLiga with selected matches broadcast in 4K streaming quality.

2. MOOV 24 bit Music Service ─ music lovers may enjoy Hong Kong’s first 24 bit FLAC lossless streaming music service, with music tracks available in both studio master version and upsampled version, to be offered by MOOV.

3. 5G VR application ─ viewers may enjoy immersive Virtual Reality (VR) K-Pop Music shows performed by Korean Pop singers and bands, in a joint collaboration among HKT, PCCW Media and its global strategic partner LG U+ from Korea.

4. 5G VR eSports ─ gamers may take part in popular VR eSports game Zombie Street which is offered exclusively by csl. It will be a whole new gaming experience thanks to 5G’s ultra-low-latency.
