At the recent TMForum’s Digital Transformation Asia event which took place in November 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, The Fast Mode spoke to Todd Ashton, President of Ericsson Malaysia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on the shifts taking place within telecom operators as they reposition themselves as digital telcos to capitalize on the increasingly lucrative opportunities in the digital services space.
The interview discusses on initiatives by telecom operators in this segment, focusing on how operators are moving beyond the traditional voice, messaging and data connectivity services to selling ‘customer experience’ built upon enhanced networks and newer technologies as well as the improved delivery of content and digital services in their effort to meet the needs of their subscribers, specifically digital natives, who are embracing the mobile-dependent, digital lifestyles in a big way.
Todd shared his views on mobile operators’ approach to the competition they (the operators) face from web-scale players and how synergies between operators and these players are seeing more innovative services being rolled out in the marketplace. Todd also examined some of the major challenges faced by operators with regards to their digitalization efforts.
