Telstra, in partnership with VeloCloud announced a major platform update to its Programmable Network to deliver an SD-WAN as a virtual solution to extend branch network for customers in Australia and globally.

Claiming to be the first to rollout the service in Asia Pacific, the Operator is combining VeloCloud’s SD-WAN as a virtual network function (VNF) on Juniper’s universal CPE (uCPE) devices.

Jim Fagan, Director, Cloud Practice - Telstra Businesses wrote in a blog, "Businesses can now shift their branch network into the cloud, by deploying a single Juniper Networks Universal CPE device on site, and using a marketplace of Virtual Network Functions to deploy the required services – all through Telstra Programmable Network."

"We are the only company in Australia and across APAC that can offer virtual branch networking, VeloCloud SD-WAN, and zero touch management – all in the cloud, powered through Telstra Programmable Network. This is part of our ongoing commitment to bring world-class network innovation to international markets.", added Jim Fagan.

Telstra first announced its strategic partnership with VeloCloud Networks in March. The Operator later in May unveiled the Telstra Programmable Network that will combine its SDN and NFV, cloud platform and data centres, and global and Australian networks in one integrated and intelligent platform that provides a network-as-a-service with global reach.

Telstra is also among the backers in VeloCloud Networks' $35 million Series D funding round to expand business, capacity and operations as the company accelerates new SD-WAN product development, supports larger customer rollouts, and increases sales and marketing globaly.
