Verizon's New SmartHub Combines WiFi Hotspot and Smart Home Control Interface

Verizon has introduced a new 4G LTE router that provides a combination of WiFi hotspot and smart home control interface for $199.99 or $99.99 with a two-year contract.

Dubbed as SmartHub, it allows customers to keep their existing home phone number and make HD Voice calls. Customers can download Verizon Home, a companion app for SmartHub that lets them conveniently monitor and control smart home accessories from their smartphone.

It also enabled notifications and schedule routines like adjusting lights, setting thermostat temperatures and more. Customers can even keep an eye on their home when they are away by using Verizon Home to control door locks, lights, security cameras and thermostat.

Verizon Home also lets customers set up home automation so you can use the app to trigger your Nest thermostat to start warming your house when you’re heading home from work or have your Kwikset Home Connect unlock your front door from your car.

For the design conscious, SmartHub was created to blend in with existing décor with its modern looks, subtle under-lighting and forward lean. The display lets users to quickly access data usage and Wi-Fi passwords, and its portable size means you can easily move it between your home, office or vacation spot.

Thanks to the included replacement battery, SmartHub provides critical backup of voice connectivity, even when the power goes out.
