Thailand's third largest mobile operator, dtac in an announcement said that it aims to become the leading mobile internet provider by expanding its 4G service on 1800MHz after it received greenlight from the country's telecoms regulator, NBTC. Approving DTAC's request to upgrade its bandwidth on 1800MHz to provide 4G service, NBTC will forward the permit to CAT Telecom, which owns the DTAC concession and will give the formal permit to DTAC.

The operator is hoping to receive formal approval for the additional 4G services on 10 MHz on the 1800 MHz spectrum by early next month. With that, it plans to expand 4G service network coverage nationwide to reach at least 95% of the population eventually and to improve customer experience. Toward this end, the operator has also invested 500 million Baht on ‘dtac Network Analytics Solution’ to analyze consumer behavior and ensure the best customer experience.

According to Dtac, since the launch of its 4G service this February, the number of subscribers with data consumption of 5GB monthly doubled in the first six months of this year compared to the second half of last year (year-on-year) while the major chunk of its subscribers consume an average of 2-3GB of data.

Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer of dtac
Dtac has planned a network management to support every used on every spectrum on its highest potential to supply every customer demand and usage. dtac doesn’t consider expanding 3G and 4G services as the increase of cell sites only but also managing the customer mobile experience to fulfil the most demands possible for customers to use voice and data on every customer mobile in business areas, in traffic zones, during holidays, and etc.
