The largest mobile operator in Singapore, Singtel took the largest block of 4G spectrum in the recent auction by the telecom authorities of the republic which also saw participation by other operators such as StarHub and M1 and newcomer TPG Telecom.

Singtel paid the highest amount, $563.7 million($USD402.5million), for 75MHz of spectrum within the 700 MHz, 900 MHz and 2.5GHz bands. The Operator acquired 40MHz in the new 700MHz frequency band, while StarHub managed to secure 30MHz and M1 20MHz.

Yuen Kuan Moon, CEO, Consumer Singapore, Singtel, said that “With this investment, we have secured the necessary spectrum to grow, evolve and expand our mobile business into the future and stay at the cutting edge of technology development. As the 700Mhz spectrum band is the most efficient and versatile spectrum band for LTE networks, this investment puts us in a strong position to support the growth of IOT and 5G initiatives in the future."

Singapore telecommunications regulator raised a total of $1.14 billion ($USD816.2 million) in the first phase of a spectrum auction. StarHub paid $349.6 million for 60MHz of spectrum, while M1 paid $208 million for 30MHz of spectrum and TPG paid $23.8 million for 10MHz of spectrum.
