The third largest mobile operator in Japan, KDDI recorded 15.4% increase in its net profit for the first nine months of its financial year to 471.4 billion yen ($4.17 billion) on the back of higher mobile revenues and revenues from handset sales.

The Operator's operating revenue also increased 5.4 per cent to 3.352 trillion yen during this period. At the end of last year, KDDI had a total of 48 million mobile subscriptions, up from 45 million in the year before.

As for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2017, KDDI' consolidated operating revenue up 6.8 percent year-on-year to 3.5 trillion yen. It added 592,000 mobile customers in the quarter.

Based on its performance for the first nine months of the fiscal year, KDDI has revised its projections for the full year. The company now expects to report an operating income of 910 billion yen, up from the initial forecast of 885 billion Yen.
