SK Telecom announced that its first quarter revenue stood at KRW 4.229 trillion($3.76 billion), a 0.3% decline year-on-year(YoY) which the operator attributed to the elimination of sign-up fees and increased number of subscribers who choose contract-based mobile fee discounts. The operator’s net income during the quarter rose 29.3 per cent year-on-year to KRW 572.3 billion ($500 million).
SK Telecom said it added 295,000 mobile customers during the quarter, pushing its total customer base to 28.92 million subscribers. As of the end of the quarter, the number of SK Telecom’s LTE subscribers marked 19.53 million, taking up over 67.5% of the company’s total mobile subscriber base.
The company said that it is concentrating on shifting the market paradigm by promoting a product/service-oriented competition through the launch of many new differentiated services in the areas of Lifestyle Enhancement Platform, Media Platform and the IoT Platform.
