Idea Cellular, India's third-biggest mobile phone operator, posted strong first-quarter (April-June) results, recording a net profit of 7.28 billion rupees, 57.4% increase from 4.63 billion rupees a year earlier on the back of higher demand for mobile Internet services. The company saw its EBITDA and EBITDA margin rising 20.9 percent and 33.2 percent respectively during the period.
Idea, an Aditya Birla group company and an entity partly owned by the Axiata Group recorded a 23.6% mobile data revenue growth, propelled by the increase in mobile data subscribers by 2.6 million for the given quarter to a total of 27.9 million subscriber base and increase in the mobile data traffic on its 2G & 3G network by 11.5% to 32.5 billion megabytes.
Idea said that the blended Data ARPU (2G+3G) also improved to 108 rupees and Usage per Data subscriber is at 409 MB, among the highest in industry.
