The world's largest Mobile Network Operator (MNO), China Mobile recorded a 5.4% increase in the telecom services operating revenue, reaching 590.95 billion yuan while seeing an 8.0% increase in its subscriber base which stands at 767 million for the year ending 2013. Its net profit, however, slipped 5.9 percent year on year to 121.7 billion yuan during this period and is the first dip in the last 14 years since 1999.
Data business posted showed a positive growth momentum with a total revenue of 206.9 billion yuan, up 24.4% over last year. The revenue from wireless data reached 108.2 billion yuan, up 58.6% over last year, becoming a significant source for revenue growth, owing to business transformation that China Mobile has undertaken to reflect the mobile Internet age.
Last year China Mobile's 3G services achieved a net growth of 104 million customers while it continues to aim for the development of a superior LTE network with 500,000 base stations by the end of 2014, as part of its strategic vision “Mobile Changes Life”. The company also plans to proactively push forward the VoLTE live network testing to realize commercialization of VoLTE by the end of this year, hence solidifying its first mover advantage. China Telecom is also sprucing up its effort in buidling its Unified Communications (UC) services.
