Gfk, a global market research company found that when it comes to activity trackers within the wearable market, consumers in Germany, the UK and the US say that fitness monitoring is the top most priority, while consumers from China find the recording of health data such as heart rate and quality of sleep as their major requirement. Users in South Korea, on the other hand, go for detailed analysis of both fitness monitoring and health records.

This and other findings are published by Gfk in its recent report release and infographics showing the adoption of various wearables, which cover smartwatches, smart glasses and smartbands. The study was based on online responses of 1000 smartphone users from the above countries. One of the most interesting highlights from the study was the difference between these countries in terms of factors that influence the purchase of an activity tracker. While Germans put a stronger emphasis on the compatibility of these devices and their smartphones (30% of respondents) as well as price (20%), consumers in UK and US place price as the key determinant (28% of respondents and 27% of respondents respectively). China on the other hand sees compatibility, accuracy and brand as equally important factors for their purchase while South Koreans line up compatibility, price and user friendliness as their top criteria.

In terms of vendor preference, well-known technology companies are the first choice for all the countries surveyed, though South Koreans voted much higher (69%) for these brands compared to others.(54 percent in China, 51 percent in Germany, 47 percent in the UK and 42 percent in the USA). According to Gfk, sports brands follow in second place, but by quite some margin.
