So, is everyone after smart wearables? According to TECHnalysis Research, a market research and strategic consulting firm, the smart wearables market recorded shipment of 10 Million Units last year and is expected to grow to 70 Million in year 2018. In terms of revenue, the segment is expected to grow from $2.1 billion to $12.1 billion during the same tenure. For this year, TECHnalysis reported an estimate of 9.9 million units and a revenue of $2.09 billion dollars.

TECHanalysis also said that US leads the market in terms of adoption of wearables, which comprise of 'head-worn'. 'wrist-worn', 'war-worn', 'finger-worn' and 'others' sub-segments. US is expected to generate 81% of the total revenues this year, though with the trend catching up in other regions, this share will eventually drop to 54% by 2018. With this growth prediction,we can expect more people to start experimenting with these smart wearables - watches, bracelets, headsets, rings, glasses and even pins that intelligently send/receive data and communicate the information via small display screens - and in a few years, these may become more common sight everywhere.

The biggest opportunity both in the near-term and in the longer term is for the wrist-worn categories: smart bracelets and smart watches. Consumers have already shown a proclivity to activity-tracking smart bracelets and with all the current and future development focused on smart watches, that category will also play an important role. Head-worn wearables, like Google Glass, on the other hand, are likely to disappoint as high price points, privacy concerns, and long-term wearable comfort issues will keep the category in the niche realm.”
