Verizon Wireless, the largest mobile operator in the US has just added a few new features to its pre-paid data plans. In its statement, Verizon said that its US$45 monthly prepaid smartphone plans will now accord users double the data that they have been receiving. Prepaid customers will now have an extra 500MB of data to consume, bringing the total data available for monthly use to 1GB.
Verizon has also offered an additional data of 500MB for customers who enrol in its Auto Pay service to settle their monthly bills. This move in particular, is expected to provide users the incentive to settle their bills early and will be cutting down the costs of recovering payments from overdue accounts.
The US$45 prepaid plan which comes with Unlimited Talk and Text, also offers add-on buckets with allocations of 500MB, 1GB and 3GB. The bigger buckets come with a three month expiry, mimicking the 'rollover' effect which has recently been introduced by the likes of T-Mobile and AT&T on their post-paid data packages. More interestingly, this new feature is debuted just as Verizon's CFO Fran Shammo said, in a statement to CNET, that the company will not be following in the footsteps of the other operators to introduce rollover data.
