Cam Cullen Vice President Global Marketing Procera NetworksCam Cullen, Vice President of Global Marketing at Procera Networks, who is an active blogger for Procera, made an interesting analysis of online usage trends among users during the Super-Bowl broadcast, indicating rise in online streaming trends for live telecast. The adoption is growing as more quality live streams are available, Fox is such good example, delivering a world-class live stream (using Akamai) that by all accounts seemed to be well received by broadband subscribers, according to Mr Cullen. He highlighted that the quality of the streams for non-mobile/tablet devices has left a lot to be desired, with 0.5% to 1.2% of active subscribers during the Super Bowl broadcast actually turned into the live stream. The Super Bowl streaming traffic hit highs of ~10% of overall traffic volume on some of the networks monitored, but these users did not use more than other average users. He also noted that Netflix traffic dipped as much a 20% during the first half, peaking at the Halftime show with Bruno Mars, and then climbing back during the 2nd half to normal numbers (and well beyond on the West Coast where primetime was hitting).
