According to Telematics Update, the reference point for automotive telematics, as reported by 4G America, the 4G LTE network stability and coverage is set to have significant impact on the uptake of telematics services as the internet connections become more responsive, allowing for the transmission of large files and video much more quickly on 4G LTE compared to 3G.  Telematic Update reported that 76 percent of all surveyed automotive industry executives expect all new vehicles to be telematics connected by 2022 and that the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have taken a piecemeal approach to the connected car because of a lack of guaranteed connectivity. The automotive industry is moving towards a faster adoption of LTE, with major OEMs such as Toyota has included LTE in its hybridized approach. The challenge remains if LTE network can cater without performance degradation  when confronted with significant vehicle volume on the road and during traffic congestion.

The Automotive HMI Report, 2013

“Particularly in the North American market, LTE is becoming mainstream and coverage in the U.S. is now nationwide. The U.S. has emerged as the worldwide leader in LTE connections and innovations are being developed to keep future LTE networks efficient, effective, fast and reliable.” She continued, “It is not surprising that OEMs are looking at the benefits of LTE for the connected car.”, said Vicki Livingston, Head of Communications at 4G Americas
“We are pleased to be working with Telematics Update on their leading conference for the automotive industry—one of the key vertical markets to be positively influenced and improved with the advent of faster mobile broadband connectivity”, said Chris Pearson, President of 4G Americas Read More '4G LTE Set to Deliver Connectivity to Cars: Telematics Update and 4G Americas Team Up'
