STL partners,  a company providing consulting, research and event services internationally in the telecommunications, media and technology sectors, released a report entitled the 'Telco Opportunities in the “New Mobile Web”' via their Telco 2.0 Initiative. The report, sponsored by Buongiorno, a design and delivery company specializing in the next generation mobile content, discusses the emerging opportunities for CSPs in the content segment. At present, Operators are not actively participating in the digital content although most of them acknowledge that moving forward, the content segment will provide the next wave of monetization and revenue sources for the broadband sector. According to the report, Operators are potentially well-placed to succeed in this space as they have the requisite assets and capabilities and the desire to grow their digital businesses.

The report also points out that the New Mobile Web, a term used by the report to describe transformed mobile Web experience achieved through advances in HTLM5, faster and cheaper (4G) connectivity and better mobile devices, will lead to a shift away from native (Apple & Android) app ecosystems to browser-based consumption of media and services. This shift will create new opportunities for operators seeking to re(build) their digital presence. This New Mobile Web extends beyond “pages”, to content that looks and behaves more like “apps”. By having such “Web-apps” that work across different operating systems and devices – not just phones, but also PCs, TVs and more – the Web may be able to wrest back its role and influence in mobile Apps and Content.
