China Telecom led the data market with pure data packages and interesting products such as 189 mail as well as e-Surfing Cloud. 189 mail enables subscribers to access Vibeo, a popular micro blogging site in China while e-Surfing Cloud includes free cloud storage space for its customers.   These and the promotion of self-developed applications such as product centre services as well as external applications led to a 51% increase in the monthly data usage by 3G subscribers, reaching an average of 168MB per user while total Internet access traffic almost tripled, doubling the revenues compared to the same period last year. China Telecom's 3G services have a penetration of 50%, compared to rivals China Mobile and China Unicorn whose penetration is 18% and 38% respectively. The increase of its China Telecom's mobile market share from 4% in 2008 to current 15%, its dominance in the 3G market and its wireline broadband subscriber base of 95.82 million will contribute to spur its growth in the data segment.
