According to TechNavio's report, the Global Voice over Mobile Broadband (VoMBB) Market 2012-2016, the VoMBB services are expected to take-off next year and the year after and continue growing for years to come. One of the major impetus for the voice to move from its traditional circuit-based to the new voice on data is the wide deployment of LTE which allows a much higher quality for voice connections and includes third party voice applications such as OTT voice (eg Skype). Earlier, subscribers prefering voice on data were taking advantage of the availability of WiFi Hotspots and public WiFi, but its usage is limited by factors such as coverage, accessibility and convenience (due to lack of seamless handover). The demand for on-the-go voice on data was therefore always there and this is where VoHSPA and VoLTE, both offering higher quality voice on data connections come into play. The report says that these services will enable high spectrum efficiency, reduce cost per subscriber, and provide richer voice and therefore, will dramatically alter the operations of telecom operators. It also predicts that with increasing demand for bandwidth capacity, refarming legacy network spectrum will be one of the trends that will be emerging in the market.
