O2 customers enjoy free WiFi on London Underground

O2's WiFi customers can now enjoy free WiFi on the London Underground. The free WiFi service is provided via wholesale partnership with Virgin Media and enables O2 to join its rivals EE and Vodafone who are already providing the service. The service, which is available at 120 stations can be accessed by O2 customers by signing up at an online portal through the O2 WiFi app that can be downloaded. The service also allows O2 subscribers to receive and make calls and SMSs through the TU Go, circumventing the mobile coverage issues experienced on the Tube.

"O2 customers already signed up to O2 Wifi (via a hotspot or the O2 Wifi app) will be automatically registered to London Underground WiFi. Once they’ve signed in for the first time via the online portal, their devices will automatically connect each time they enter a WiFi enabled station. O2 customers who aren’t already signed up to O2 Wifi can do so by downloading the O2 Wifi app on iOS or Android, or logging on at any of the 8,725 O2 Wifi hotspots across the UK."

Gary Booker, Head of Consumer at O2, said: “We’re excited to bring free Underground WiFi to O2 customers this summer. Our customers want to stay connected wherever they are and will soon be able to check their email, update their Facebook status, shop online, book their next holiday and stay connected to their friends and family right across Tube stations in Central London.”
