Vodaphone Australia is joining the race with Optus and Telstra to provide higher speed mobile broadband service which promises 20-30Mbps download speed.
Speaking at a strategy update in North Sydney today, Mr Morrow said the telco's long-awaited 4G mobile services would be available from June in the major metropolitan centres of Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, Wollongong, Newcastle and the Gold Coast".
"While Vodafone is the only major mobile player in Australia yet to commercially launch the 4G mobile standard, the company has larger holdings of the 1800Mhz spectrum than Optus and Telstra use to operate their 4G mobile networks"
"The telco has plans to extend its 4G mobile network to 1000 sites by the end of 2013. Those tower constructions coupled with the telco's large holdings in 1800Mhz wireless spectrum band means download speeds on the Vodafone network will be able to reach theoretical peaks of 150Mbps"
