Dell’Oro Group reports that the overall Wireless Packet Core market grew two percent during the fourth quarter of 2013 versus the year-ago period, driven mainly by higher growth in the EPC deployments in the LTE segment. According to Dell'Oro, the North American growth slowed significantly, though higher growth is expected in Asia-Pacific in 2014, specifically China, contributing positively to vendors with contracts in that market namely Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, NSN and ZTE. Dell'Oro added that the average price per license dropped noticeably in the fourth quarter versus the third quarter, as vendors offered new licensing terms to service providers.
Dell’Oro Group has forecasted ealier that the Wireless Packet Core Equipment market will exceed $6 billion in revenues by 2018.
“This year, 2014, will see significant shifts in the packet core market,” explained Chris DePuy, Vice President of Wireless Packet Core Research at Dell’Oro Group. “The introduction of NFV systems and new LTE projects emerging outside of US, Korea and Japan will offer both challenges and opportunities for the wireless packet core market.”
