Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, forecasts that the Wireless Packet Core Equipment market will exceed $6 billion in revenues by 2018, with a growth of almost 60 percent. The Evolved Packet Core (EPC) segment is expected to dominate during this period, as operators are forced to make changes in the packet core architecture, including introducing Network Function Virtualization (NFV) based systems.

Chris DePuy Vice President, Carrier IP Telephony, Enterprise Edge, Wireless LAN, & Wireless Packet Core Market Research “Over the next five years, we expect the Asia Pacific (APAC) and Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions to become the largest buyers of Evolved Packet Core (EPC) systems.  Today, North America, APAC and EMEA have approximately the same installed base of EPC capacity,” said Chris DePuy, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group. “What makes this situation so interesting is that vendors are just beginning to offer Network Function Virtualization (NFV) based systems, and so new service provider deployments in APAC and EMEA are likely to become the most significant users of NFV.”
