Gutierrez brings with him 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, having worked in several markets in Latin America and Africa in addition to his three year stint in the company which will enable the company to transition seamlessly to the new leadership.

Outgoing Tiano has been at Tigo’s helm in interim capacity since the beginning of the year, where she led the Operator to launch Tigo Music and also the 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology which debuted last month, covering the suburb of Masaki and the Mlimani City shopping mall, both within Dar es Salaam, the largest city in the country. The operator plans full 4G coverage of the city by the end of July 2015 before extending the high speed service to the Moshi municipality, the capital Dodoma and the cities of Arusha, Morogoro, Mwanza and Tanga by end-August.

Tigo which has 8.5 million total subscribers countrywide, has recently announced plans to invest $120 million in 2015 on its network expansion and improvement.
