Ooredoo this week announced the appointment of Rene Meza, the current Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania, as the new CEO of its Myanmar business, replacing Ross Cormack. The appointment which will take effect later this year will see Meza bringing over seventeen years of international experience in emerging markets to Ooredoo Myanmar, having held several leadership positions in telecoms businesses in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Prior to his three years stint at Vodacom Tanzania, Meza was the Managing Director of Airtel Kenya and Zain Kenya and was also the Chief Operating Officer of Millicom Pakistan.

Ooredoo Myanmar, a new comer to the country's mobile market, has 3.3 million subscribers as of the end of March 2015 after its debut in the Myanmar market in August last year. The Operator has also activated more than 500 new mobile sites in the first quarter this year.

Dr. Nasser Marafih, Ooredoo Group CEO
Rene Meza has considerable experience in leading the growth of telecoms businesses in emerging markets and we believe he has all the qualities to take Ooredoo Myanmar to the next level as we continue to roll-out Myanmar's first 3G-only mobile network.
