Telia Company, DNA & Elisa Spend €66m in Finland's 700MHz Spectrum Auction

The spectrum auction for 700 MHz spectrum in Finland saw the three largest operators in the country, Telia Company, DNA and Elisa spending €22 million each to secure 2x10 MHz of frequencies. The paired frequency blocks will be valid till 2033.

The auction undertaken by Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) was concluded on Thursday this week. The 700 MHz licence requires an operator's 4G network to cover 99 per cent of the population on mainland Finland within three years of the beginning of the licence period.

A total of six licences (paired frequency blocks) of five MHz each were auctioned off within the 703–733 and 758–788 MHz bands. The auction is carried out over the internet and all paired frequency blocks are auctioned at the same time.
