Telstra is investing $190 million to secure 57 blocks of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band that cover 12 regions across Australia that will be used to enhance the delivery of its 4G mobile services. The spectrum that was secured at the recent auction by Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) will enable the largest mobile operator in Australia to deliver greater capacity and faster speeds to meet growing demand.

The auction also saw Optus, TPG internet and Vodafone securing spectrum in the same band with Optus spending $196 million, the highest.

Telstra CEO Andy Penn
As a result of the auction, we’ll be at least doubling the amount of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band that we can use to provide 4G services in these areas. In fact, in some regions we will more than triple the amount available.
