Telekom Slovenije announced that it has reached the 600th location in Slovenia with its LTE/4G mobile network, covering 92.68% of the population. With this, the operator has achieved the coverage planned for this year, and will continue expanding its LTE/4G network.
Telekom Slovenije, whose total investment budget for this year amounts to €107 million, said that it is extensively upgrading the central part of its core network, modernizing its radio network, and strengthening its fixed network. According to the operator, by the end of the year it will conclude the overhaul of the central part of its mobile core network, which includes an overhaul of four mobile core network sub-systems.
In addition, Telekom Slovenije is preparing for the introduction of 5G technology by participating in the iCirrus development project from the Horizon 2020 program. The iCirrus project focuses on developing system solutions for constructing 5G systems with emphasis on D2D communication and C-RAN, with the purpose of achieving greater spectral and energy efficiency.

Today two thirds of data transferred in Telekom Slovenije’s mobile network are transferred using LTE/4G technology, and in the past year data transfer over the LTE/4G technology has almost trebled. Data transfer over all types of mobile technologies (2G, 3G and LTE/4G) has been increasing by about 40% annually. We have noted an exceptional growth in the use of video content, cloud services, interactive apps, Internet of Things, and other services.
