The largest mobile operator in the Caribbean Islands, Digicel is reported to be planning the flotation of the company on the New York Stock Exchange, hoping to raise as much as $2.3 billion, according to a filing with the SEC.
The Operator's enterprise value, which includes debt following the flotation, will be close to $10bn (€9bn), as reported by the Irish Independent. Digicel is primarily a mobile provider, but is also getting into the “triple play” model with cable and the Internet. The group that operates in 31 markets, last year generated revenues of $2.8bn, with operating profits of $707m.
Digicell which has almost 11 million customers in the Caribbean Islands and around 3 million in the South Pacific, told investors that "the addressable opportunity in its markets for business solutions could total revenues of up to $3bn."
Denis O’Brien, the company’s chairman, and the founder first set up Digicel in Jamaica in 2001 and expanded throughout the Caribbean, then adding markets in Central America and the Asia-Pacific region.
