SoftBank Group Corp. (SBG) recently nnounced that it has set a group target of "Achieving Carbon Neutrality by fiscal 2030," to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from business activities of the SoftBank Group to virtually zero by fiscal 2030.
On a non-consolidated basis, SBG has achieved Carbon Neutrality*2 in fiscal 2020 and 2021 and has set its course to go Carbon Neutral continuously. In addition, SBG’s major subsidiaries, namely SoftBank Corp., Z Holdings Corporation, Yahoo Japan Corporation, and Arm Limited have also set their own targets regarding greenhouse gas emission reduction or renewable electricity introduction, undertaking various initiatives toward decarbonization. With the new group target in place, SBG seeks to accelerate decarbonization efforts by teaming up with more companies within the Group.
The majority of the Group’s greenhouse gas emissions come from the use of electricity. Therefore, as a step forward to achieve Carbon Neutrality, the Group mainly focuses on a shift to electricity generated from renewable energy sources. Meanwhile, energy-saving measures utilizing IoT are also implemented at the head office building and data centers.
Under the new group target of "Achieving Carbon Neutrality by fiscal 2030," the SoftBank Group will address greenhouse gas emission reduction as its shared effort to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society, and will continue to strengthen its ESG initiatives with the aim of enhancing sustainability and corporate value.
