Intel Corporation and Chunghwa Telecom have announced a partnership for a joint initiative in the Internet of Things (IoT) space. According to a news report in The China Post, both parties signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday on the development of technology related to the IoT as well as cloud computing and software-defiend networking.
Intel Corporation, the US based semiconductor chip maker with operations around the globe and highest turnover globally in the chip market, and Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's largest telecommunications company, will focus on various IoT verticals, including smart homes, energy management and fleet management, reported the The China Post.
Intel's and Chunghwa's partnership marks yet another step forward by service providers to accelerate their participation in the fast growing IoT sector. According to a report published at the RnR Market Research, the global IoT and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) market is expected to grow at a staggering CAGR of 24.24% from now to 2019, taking the sector from its present market size from USD128.7 billion to USD498.92 billion by the end of the period. In another report by Berg Insight, the number of M2M connections globally are expected to touch 600 million by the end of 2019. With the rapid growth expected in these sectors, a large of number of partnerships are being formed between network operators, manufacturers, cloud services providers, application developers and technology companies.
The China Post also reported that Intel and Chunghwa Telecom said that an earlier memorandum of understanding signed between both parties in 2010 has delivered remarkable progress in cloud computing deployment. This new partnership will see both companies extending their joint development initiatives to other areas, including the software-defined infrastructure aimed at optimizing energy efficiency at cloud data centers, said both companies.
