Telenor Myanmar said it will invest USD 80 million in Myanmar to acquire additional 2X10 MHz spectrum in the 1800MHz frequency band to optimize its network to continuously deliver consistent and improved 4G data experience.

In May 2017, Telenor was allocated its first 2X10MHz of 1800MHz spectrum for USD 80 million. In that process, all operators were given an option to acquire additional spectrum on a first come first served basis. Telenor is the first operator in Myanmar that exercise the right to obtain more spectrum, providing a solid spectrum position to support roll out of “real 4G” services.

During the last six months, Telenor has rapidly deployed its 4G network and by the end of 2017 the company expect to cover Myanmar’s top 50 cities and most famous destinations. This means that 2/3 of the country’s urban population is already living within the company’s 4G footprint. In addition, tests conducted by Open Signal, the world’s largest crowdsourcing services for network quality, shows that Telenor also has the best 3G network quality in Myanmar.

Telenor claims that it is one of Myanmar’s largest foreign investors and have so far invested over USD 2 billion since entering the country in 2013.

Myanmar has shown an exceptional hunger for mobile data, and to meet the incredible demand Telenor continues investing in a state-of-the-art network. Today, we are doubling our capacity for delivering high-quality 4G services, resulting in an immediate benefit for our customers who will experience smoother internet services and better indoor coverage.
