In conjunction with the recently concluded MWC Barcelona 2022, Tara Neal, Executive Editor of The Fast Mode spoke to Alexandra Rasch, CEO, Caban Systems on the company's plans and showcases for this year's event.

Tara: What do you think MWC 2022 will be all about? And what are your MWC 2022 plans?

Alexandra: ESG, largely focused on “green 5G rollout”. The telecom industry at large is more focused now than it ever has been on reducing emissions, decarbonizing its footprint and scaling up clean power and sustainable solutions. Earlier this week, I served as a panelist at MWC on the topic of energy efficient trends in 5G. The newest network standard is extremely energy efficient on its own, however far greater benefits are realized when the entire wireless supply chain embraces ESG practices. For example: harnessing solar-powered energy-as-a-service platforms to power telecommunications sites and  peak power shaving abilities.

Our plans at MWC 2022 were to share with the telecom industry our newest product unveiling, the Monaco Platform, an advanced energy management and storage system for telecom operators that require Battery-as-a-Service solutions for grid connected sites. With Monaco, Caban is providing a vertically integrated, intelligent and maintenance-free energy platform that includes features such as peak shaving and smart charging.Caban Systems’ solar-powered Energy-as-Service solution and new Monaco Platform power system for urban sites perfectly complement today’s energy efficient 5G networking technology.

Tara: How has the pandemic impacted the operational and business landscape of the tech segment you are operating in?

Alexandra: The better question is, how hasn't the pandemic impacted the industry? With a significant uptick in remote working environments, the world is demanding more connections at higher speeds and improved quality of service. As a result Caban Systems is seeing greater demand for our energy management solutions as compared to pre-pandemic. Customers and consumers want more reliable power, reliable connectivity and increased uptime.

One great example of such demand is our deployments with COATL, a transformation oriented company, developing the digitalization ecosystem in El Salvador. Amid the start of the pandemic, there was a greater need from El Salvadoran coastal communities to provide access to medical care, employment and high-quality education. As a result, Caban Systems is deploying Enduro Systems and the Continuo Platform to more than 50 sites covering COATL´s DWDM & IP-MPLS CORE Network Nodes, Microwave Repeater Sites and TV White Space Radio Base Stations. COATL is finalizing the implementation of the first 218 rural schools that will provide broadband services to 54,000 students. For further details of the partnership, please read here. The biggest impact on our operational business with respect to COVID has been with our supply chain. Like most of the world's manufacturers, we have had to manage and plan for supply chain challenges.

Tara: What emerging trends/technologies have you observed in your tech segment in recent months?

Alexandra: Since we are headquartered in Silicon Valley, we're fortunate enough to be exposed to some of the most innovative technologies before the rest of the world. Caban Systems has been on the forefront of many of these technology trends since our inception in 2018.

AI-enabled energy management software, such as Caban Systems’ Continuo Platform, supports decarbonization by providing real-time alerting, monitoring visibility and control. It also includes the ability to analyze peak usage patterns and optimize platforms for enhanced performance and cost management.  Internet of Things (IOT)–based energy optimization provides entirely new procurement channels and methods. It is facilitating energy system diversification and new generations of sustainable platforms.
