In conjunction with MWC Barcelona 2022 which will be taking place from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March, Tara Neal, Executive Editor of The Fast Mode spoke to Avishai Sharlin, Division President at Amdocs Technology on the company's plans and showcases for this year's event.

Tara: What do you think MWC 2022 will be all about? And what are your MWC 2022 plans?

Avishai: I think this year’s MWC is going to be a celebration of ubiquitous connectivity. Since the last ‘normal’ MWC took place in 2019 we have relied on technology more than ever to keep us connected with our friends and colleagues. So, not only will MWC 2022 be an opportunity to explore the latest technological advancements - I’m personally excited to see how CSPs are accelerating new growth opportunities and achieving differentiation with enhanced 5G experiences - but it will provide a chance to reconnect on a personal level. From an Amdocs perspective, we’ll have several senior executives in attendance at our booth, and our CEO Shuky Sheffer is among this year’s keynote speakers.

Tara: How has the pandemic impacted the operational and business landscape of the tech segment you are operating in?

Avishai: Cloud infrastructure has become more vital than ever during the pandemic, as businesses made adjustments to facilitate remote and hybrid working. However, while public cloud, in particular, has become the new normal, many enterprises still have their on-premise cloud structures and require a hybrid environment. In addition, organisations are moving to more than just one cloud supporting multi-clouds. Organisations now need better focus on how to run their businesses around various environments without fail, while also solving the issue of critical data not being housed in a single place. Edge computing is becoming a major part of the game here when enterprises have small deployments of edge-specific cloud hardware at various locations across the country, further distributing data.

Tara: What emerging trends/technologies have you observed in your tech segment in recent months?

Avishai: Public cloud vendors are becoming AI leaders as they provide tooling and capabilities to support the ecosystem (skillset, hardware, etc.). As the democratisation of AI programmes comes to more developers and consumers, we’re seeing things such as facial recognition and machine learning become integrated into more products than ever before. Beyond this, robotic process automation (RPA) will continue to rise, providing automation across enterprises and industries. Finally, from a security standpoint, as businesses become more reliant on the cloud we’re seeing a boom of companies expanding their offerings to include cybersecurity services and solutions, capitalising on the need to protect cloud investments. The most notable technologies in this space at the moment are end-point solutions such as EDR and XDR, as well as Zero Trust Network Access and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE). As the office and home remain merged, and innovations like the metaverse, IoT, and cloud adoption continue to grow and bring new potential threats, we’ll continue to see an increase in these types of technologies.
