In conjunction with MWC Barcelona 2022 which will be taking place from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March, Tara Neal, Executive Editor of The Fast Mode spoke to Ed Chao, CEO at Polte on the company's plans and showcases for this year's event.
Tara: What do you think MWC 2022 will be all about? And what are your MWC 2022 plans?
Ed: I believe MWC 2022 will be about how the full promise of 5G is quickly becoming a reality. The building blocks are here: 5G rollouts, 5G private networks, Open RAN, participation of enterprises and the hyperscalers, interoperability with 4G, spectrum, devices and the intelligent edge are converging to unlock the full promise of connecting billions of devices. For Polte, we plan to use MWC 2022 as an opportunity to meet with our key partners to accelerate 5G value generation and 5G Precise Positioning for the industry.
Tara: How has the pandemic impacted the operational and business landscape of the tech segment you are operating in?
Ed: There’s no doubt that the pandemic has caused challenges within our ecosystem, from supply chain disruption to impacting the way we are able to gather and communicate. However, it has also shined a light on why 5G and wireless are so critical for resilience and for our future. From connecting schools to connecting workers, we have all seen the value of wireless in such challenging times. The pandemic has shown us how connectivity can solve the challenges of making society more prepared for such economic shocks. It has helped us understand the importance of security, availability, and ubiquity not only of connectivity but of what Polte is doing in positioning, which is becoming an even more fundamental pillar of resilience and a prosperous global economy.
Tara: What emerging trends/technologies have you observed in your tech segment in recent months?
Ed: In recent months, we have seen a major pickup in 5G private networks and in supply chain visibility use cases. The pandemic has only heightened the importance of how 5G will deliver secure, resilient, ubiquitous connectivity, and highlighted how positioning is a key requirement for these two key trends. On the technology front, bringing 5G Precise Positioning to the Cloud and Edge brings an exciting opportunity to democratize location for use cases in which real-time visibility and data sovereignty has become more important for adoption by enterprises, government and even consumers. 5G, and in particular, 5G positioning, needs to be trusted, and the convergence of 5G positioning with the Edge and Cloud will deliver on the need for secure, accurate, global location.
