Siemens Convergence Creators recently presented the results of a survey on the growth of key technology areas for telecom Operators. The results among others showed that IT/Business Executives rate customer experience as the top benefit priority for the deployment of Big Data. What this means is that most managers feel that Big Data is indeed a powerful tool to enhance customer experience, validating the use-cases often touted by players in this space.

The survey also found that Big Data is able to contribute in a major way in improving business process efficiencies and in helping management develop new products and business models. Other areas where Big Data's contribution is expected to be significant are targeted marketing, cost reduction, improved risk management, direct monetization of information, regulatory compliance and enhanced security capabilities.

With heaps of data collected at various end points by today's businesses, practically everyone is sitting on large reservoirs of Big Data. What matters now is how well this data is mined to produce actionable insights that can assist decision makers across the many business processes. This is the challenge for everyone, and more so for telecom Operators. How will they extract what they need from layers and layers of information stored across the many systems - subscriber management, network/IT, business support and customer management - in ways that the most valuable insights are captured and deployed to relevant uses in a timely manner?
